Il Nido isn't riverfront, it's a private cabin set back in the woods a few minutes from the water, close enough for a spontaneous afternoon, far enough for real quiet at night.
On the Water
Most people start with Indian Head Canoes in Barryville, which handles rentals and shuttle service for everything below. No experience is necessary for tubing or a guided canoe trip.
The easiest way onto the river, best in summer when the water is warm and the current is gentle.

Swimming
Quieter stretches away from the main launch points make for good swimming on a hot afternoon.
Wild trout and smallmouth bass draw anglers from well outside the area; check current NPS regulations before you go.
Along the River
Route 97 follows the Delaware for miles north of Barryville, one of the more scenic drives in the Northeast even without leaving the car.

Higher water and cooler temperatures, good for hiking and early-season fly fishing.
The Upper Delaware is a working, wild river, currents and water levels change with rainfall and dam releases upstream. Check conditions and wear a life jacket, and always book tubing and kayak trips through a licensed local outfitter like Indian Head Canoes.
